Destiny 2 Social Space Features Outlined In New Video Tour Of 'The Farm'

Destiny fans have become familiar with every nook and cranny of the Tower over the last three years. But they’ll be given a new social space in the game’s upcoming sequel, after Ghaul and his army destroy Destiny’s original gathering ground. The community got its first look at the Farm this week, courtesy of a new Destiny 2 gameplay video from Bungie and IGN.

A change of scenery seems to be the biggest change to Destiny’s social spaces. All of the same features and services we’ve seen from the first game’s gathering spaces -- including the Postmaster, Cryptarch and an assortment of vendors -- will also be present. Up to 26 players can occupy a single instance of the Farm, more than enough to build a raid team, and Bungie says players will see visual changes to the space as they work their way through the Destiny 2 campaign. Those changes will presumably include the appearance of new NPCs and maybe even more elaborate structures if Farm is really a permanent replacement for the Tower.

Functionally, there won’t be many differences between the Farm and the Tower or the Reef, neither of which will be accessible when Destiny 2 debuts in September. Players can still collect engrams they forgot to pick-up during a mission or strike from the Postmaster. Xur will still show up every Friday to sell exotic gear to anyone with the right currency, and landmarks from the new Earth zone will still linger in the distance. Pick-up soccer games will be easier to organize and play, thanks to the addition of a full soccer pitch (complete with goals at each end). But that’s about as big of a change as we’re going to see, other than an abundance of plant life, when Destiny 2 sends players to the Farm in September.

For an early look at the Farm, take a few minutes to watch the new Destiny 2 footage published by IGN on Wednesday. Then head down to the comments section and let us know what you’re hoping to see at the Farm when Destiny 2 debuts later this year.

Destiny 2 is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The console versions debut Sept. 6 and the PC version heads to Battle.net in late October.
