The third season of Black Mirror is coming to Netflix and executive producers Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones are recruiting directors and actors for the new episodes in production. While some of the talent involved with the new season has been announced, little is yet known about plotlines for individual episodes. The sci-fi anthology series is known for its chilling investigation of the repercussions that might face us in a highly technological future.
Here’s how Brooker described the series’ genesis to The Guardian:
"If technology is a drug – and it does feel like a drug – then what, precisely, are the side effects? This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The 'black mirror' of the title is the one you'll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV , a monitor, a smartphone."
Here’s everything we know about individual episodes coming in Netflix’s third season of Black Mirror.
The latest episode announced will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, whose well-received feature debut, 10 Cloverfield Lane is basically an episode of Black Mirror already.
Details have been released on four other episodes of Black Mirror Season 3 as well:
Black Mirror alumnus Owen Harris (“Be Right Back,” the sad clone episode) will direct an episode starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Jupiter Ascending) and Mackenzie Davis (The Martian).
Joe Wright, director of Atonement and Pan, will direct an episode starring Bryce Dallas Howard and Alice Eve.
House of Cards director Jakob Verbruggen will direct an episode titled men Against Fire, starring Malachi Kirby and Madeline Brewer of Orange is the New Black.
Penny Dreadful director James Hawes will direct Boardwalk Empire’s Kelly Macdonald in an episode titled “Hated in the Nation.”
In total, Netflix will air 12 new episodes of Black Mirror. An official premiere date for Season 3 has yet to be announced.
