Developer Newcore Games has officially announced a new 2.5D action platformer called The Devil Within: Satgat, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam sometime in 2023. The post-apocalyptic title is the second major title for Seoul-based Newcore Games, and it looks to be the developer's most stylish yet. To celebrate the official announcement, the developer released the first trailer for The Devil Within: Satgat, which you can check out below in two distinct flavors.
The first is backed by instrumentals only, while the other features a vocal cover. Whichever you prefer, the cutscene visuals of The Devil Within: Satgat betray its 2.5D nature; at a glance, you will actually think it’s a full-fledged 3D game. That said, the actual gameplay is not looking bad either, featuring flashy and weighty graphics set in a tragically beautiful post-apocalyptic world.
The Devil Within: Satgat is primarily an action platformer that follows the journey of an Eastern warrior called Rip Kim. Following the mysterious arrival of the Black Stone Tower, the peaceful world of Joseon was forever changed as the energy emanating from the structure eventually surfaced its hidden, sinister intentions. While at one point it brought prosperity, the Black Stone Tower’s powers grew so much that evil spirits began to emerge and overrun the living. A last-ditch attempt was made to destroy the Tower, but an unforeseen betrayal crushed the plans and led to its failure.
In his journey, Rip Kim will encounter many kinds of evil spirits. Once living beings, these malevolent creatures need to be guided to their final resting place so they may find peace, especially those who still have their humanity intact. Rip Kim primarily uses his powerful swordsmanship to eliminate these evil spirits, but he also has shooting skills. Finally, with each evil spirit he defeats, he becomes stronger as he utilizes it to make himself more powerful at the cost of control of his body.
The Devil Within: Satgat also features Metroidvania mechanics and a vast, interconnected world where some areas can only be traversed after you’ve become strong enough. The locations vary from mountains and dense forests to secret military bases and so much more.
