Dota 2 Teams Alliance and Vici Gaming Get TI10 Direct Invites

All those effort has paid off.
All those effort has paid off. Alliance

The efforts that Dota 2 team Alliance put into the two new DPC seasons look to be paying off. They have just received their direct invite to this August’s The International. Fans are sure to be happy considering that the team has just been eliminated from the WePlay AniMajor.

Vici Gaming also received a direct invite after winning their match against Virtus.pro. If they lost to VP, they may have had to go through the regional qualifiers for a chance to join TI10.

With four new teams confirmed to join TI10 and the addition of Alliance and VG, there are only two more direct invites left.

The question is who has the chance to get those remaining invites? The current ranking shows:

  • beastcoast
    • Rank: 11
    • Points: 800
    • WePlay Animajor: Eliminated
  • Thunder Predator
    • Rank: 12
    • Points: 800
    • WePlay Animajor: Did not qualify
  • Team Nigma
    • Rank: 13
    • Points: 670
    • WePlay Animajor: Upper Bracket Round 2 (vs. PSG.LGD)
  • Team Spirit
    • Rank: 16
    • Points: 585
    • WePlay Animajor: Lower Bracket Round 2 (vs. Vici Gaming)
  • TNC Predator
    • Rank: 17
    • Points: 572.25
    • WePlay Animajor: Lower Bracket Round 2 (vs. Evil Geniuses)

As you can see, both beastcoast and Thunder are hanging by a thread. However, if the three other teams below them lose their respective matches, then both will go to TI10. If that happens, it’s going to boost Dota 2 in South America.

For the three teams mentioned, the points displayed already take into account the guaranteed points. To get a direct invite, Nigma likely needs to get at least second place.

It’s actually the same situation for Spirit and TNC. They too need to get at least second place. The two teams have their work cut out for them considering TNC is facing off against EG and Spirit against VG.

Here’s the thing though, assuming both Spirit and TNC do win their next matches, they’re bound to face off against each other in the Lower Bracket. That means only one of them actually has the chance to get a direct invite to TI10.

If Nigma loses, then it drops to the Lower Bracket where it has to face TNC first then Spirit (again assuming TNC and Spirit win their matches). For this situation, only one of the three teams now has the chance to join TI10 through a direct invite.

Now if at least one of the three teams manages to get a direct invite, a new question arises. How is Valve going to choose between beastcoast and Thunder considering they both have 800 DPC points?

We’ll probably find out after today’s set of matches which are:

  • Vici Gaming vs Team Spirit
    • June 11 at 1:00 p.m. ET
  • TNC Predator vs Evil Geniuses
    • June 11 at 4:00 p.m. ET
  • Team Nigma vs PSG.LGD
    • June 11 at 7:00 p.m. ET
  • T1 vs Quincy Crew
    • June 11 at 10:00 p.m. ET

What about you? Who do you think is getting the final direct invites?
