It’s just been over a month since Team Spirit hoisted the Aegis in victory. However, Dota 2 teams are now in the final stages of preparation for the new competitive season. The first Tour of the new DPC season begins with Regional Leagues that eventually culminate in the Winter Major tournament. There’s a total of three Tours leading to The International 2022.
The new competitive season is sure to excite many teams and millions of fans. However, there’s additional good news. Valve is bringing Fantasy Play out of the Compendium and offering it to the DPC season. This means fans can enjoy it for the duration of each Tour.
Fantasy Roster
So how does it work? For each period, fans can set a Fantasy roster composed of up to two Core Player Cards, one Mid Player Card, and two Support Player Cards. These Player Cards score Fantasy points based on their performance in matches for the particular period. Periods last for a single week except for the holiday season at the end of the year.
Cards can be obtained from Player Card Packs with all players getting 10 starter packs at the start. Additional Player Card Packs can then be earned daily by winning a match. There are also Team packs available though they need to be purchased. Before we forget, there are also Silver and Gold Cards that have stat bonuses, which earn more points.
Regional Fantasy
Each DPC region will have its own Fantasy league, player cards, and unique lineup. Players are not limited to one region since they can join multiple regional leagues. However, they'll only earn Fantasy Levels based on their best fantasy league performance for the period. For example, if they place at the top 50% in one league and top 10% in another, they get the points for the top 10% placement. It’s important to remember that Region rewards do not stack.
Before we go into the rewards, let’s take a quick look at the scoring system. Unlike in the past, the scoring for the seasonal Fantasy is a bit different. Only the highest-scoring two games of a best-of-three count toward a player's score. In addition, if a team plays more than one series during a period, only their highest-scoring series count. Furthermore, all Division I matches during the Winter 2022 Tour are eligible for Fantasy play.
That said, here are the rewards:
- The top 10% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 3 Fantasy Levels.
- The top 25% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 2 Fantasy Levels.
- The top 50% scoring Fantasy Teams for the period receive 1 Fantasy Levels.
- Every third fantasy level, players get one DPC Winter 2022 Tour treasure.
- At every other level, players receive 500 shards.
