OG fans should be relieved to hear that the team is still competing in the new Dota 2 competitive season. But the thing is, it’s going to be an entirely new roster. That’s because the remaining member, Johan "N0tail" Sundstein, decided to take a break from the pro scene.
After failing to get a three-peat at The International 2021, the team started to “bleed” members. First were Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan and Martin “Saksa” Sazdov, both who left the team. After that, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs announced his retirement from competitive play. Then, Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen revealed that he was taking a break to be with his family.
It’s not surprising to know that team captain N0tail would also be taking a break. As one of the founders of OG, there’s no question that he needs time off from competing. N0tail confirmed in a statement saying that he is “taking a health break” and is looking at having at least one year off.
However, N0tail has also been vocal about developing a new generation for the team and thus is staying as a mentor to the new roster. It’s been revealed as well that he’ll be doing some streaming and content creation during his break.
Talking about being a mentor, N0tail shared that while “knowledge needs to be shared,” he doesn’t want the next generation of OG to be a carbon copy of who they were. He added that transferring what they know and letting the new players add to this would help them grow quicker.
New Roster
In coming up with a new roster, OG looked at the three basic ingredients needed to have a winning team. The first is raw skills, which means they have to be really good at playing the game. The second is passion and hunger, pretty much self-explanatory. Finally, they have to be a solid and united team. According to OG, TI winning teams don’t need to be composed of superstars. Instead, they need to be players who become friends and who love competing to ultimately become superstars together.
That said, the new OG roster is composed of:
- Artem “Yuragi” Golubiev (formerly spAce)
- Bozhidar “Biziem” Bogdanov (formerly Hansha)
- Ammar “Ammar The F” Al-Assaf (formerly ATF)
- Tommy “Taiga” Le
- Mikhail “Misha” Agatov (Captain)
