Fans of Dota 2 player Tal “Fly” Aizik have a good reason to be happy. His new team, Talon Esports, has managed to join Division 2 of SEA. This may not be what some would expect but it’s a good start. As a new team, Talon needs to work its way up the ranks to Division 1 to have a chance to join the Majors.
The New Team
It was around last week when it was announced that Fly left Evil Geniuses to join Talon. As we keep mentioning here at Player. One, that move brought a lot of surprises. For one, it meant that Fly was joining another region that has a different gameplay style compared to what he is accustomed to in North America. Another surprise was that he was joining a new team. As the team captain, the implication was that Fly had to work from the bottom.
While there were indeed doubts as to whether Fly would last long in a new team, some of those were immediately erased when the roster was revealed. There was Kim “Gabbi" Villafuerte and Damien “kpii” Chok, who had teamed up previously in TNC Predator. The other two were Rafli Fathur “Mikoto” Rahman and Brizio Adi “Hyde” Putra Budiana, both from BOOM Esports. Now that is a good lineup.
Open Qualifiers
A few days later, everyone finally got to see Talon in action. They actually started strong and it felt like they were heading to success. However, when they faced Ragdoll, it was a different story. While Talon managed to tie up the match, the victory eventually went to Ragdoll.
The good news was there was a second open qualifier and this time it appeared that Talon members had found their chemistry. They suffered no loss in the entire second open qualifier to get a seat at Division 2.
Division 2
There are currently eight teams in Division 2 and these are:
- Lilgun
- Polaris Esports
- Nigma Galaxy SEA
- 496
- Army Geniuses
- Ragdoll
- Talon Esports
- InterActive Philippines
Under the rules, the top two teams in this division move up to Division 1 on the next tour. Whether Talon can make it to the top and prove themselves to be one of the new teams in the region is the big question
What do you think about Talon's performance so far?
