For the first time ever in the history of the Elder Scrolls franchise, players will be able to experience the rich world and lore of Tamriel in a traditional tabletop wargame. In a partnership between Bethesda Softworks and acclaimed boardgame developer Modiphius, The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms takes players on an adventure across Tamriel.
Call to Arms is published by Modiphius, the same company behind the Fallout: Wasteland Warfare tabletop game set in the post-apocalyptic universe of the Fallout franchise. Similarly, Call to Arms will play and feel much like the core experience of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, as both games are built on the same core mechanics. However, Call to Arms will be a unique tabletop gaming experience in itself (and not just a reskin of Fallout) as the rules and mechanics have been changed to better represent the world of the Elder Scrolls.
Designed to be a skirmish wargame - i.e. the tabletop version of PvP - the game also includes several PvE elements such as encounters, narrative events, threats, and more. More diplomatic and cooperative players may opt to form alliances to overcome the threats and challenges the game throws at them, and the PvE aspect of the game also means Call to Arms is playable solo.
In the first wave, Call to Arms throws players into the Skyrim Civil War, with each player representing either the Stormcloaks or the Imperials as they wage war over the throne of the Nord homeland. While nothing has been confirmed yet regarding future expansions, we can expect later campaigns and skirmishses to showcase other important historic events in Tamriel's lore - possibly the Oblivion Crisis, or the Great War that ended in the White-Gold Concordat.
The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms will be initially purchasable as a two-player Starter Set. The Starter Set includes many of the heroes and characters players have met through the campaign in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video game, but the special Dragonborn character will be sold separately.
While there is no official release date yet, we can expect The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms to drop before the end of 2019.
