There’s a new reason for sci-fi fans to be happy. A video game based on The Expanse is being developed by Telltale in partnership with Deck Nine and Alcon Interactive. Titled The Expanse: A Telltale Series, it’s going to be a story-driven and interactive game.
The game is based on the TV series of the same name developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. It’s set hundreds of years in the future, a time when humanity has colonized the Solar System. It stars, among others, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Thomas Jane, and Steven Strait.
The game, however, is set before the events of the TV series. In this one, players take the role of Camina Drummer (voiced by Cara Gee who also plays the same role in the TV series). Camina leads a ragtag scavenging crew looking for a mysterious treasure that’s said to be on the edges of The Belt. The Belt refers to the Asteroid Belt, a region located somewhere between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
As Camina, players need to find a way to work with a crew of big personalities and may even need to be on guard against a mutiny. Players must make tough decisions to decide the fate of The Artemis and its crew.
There’s no question that this news may indeed be exciting for sci-fi fans.
In a statement, Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie shared that one of their driving forces is to empower other creative voices and have them tell their stories. He added that they have long been fans of Deck Nine and looking for a title that they could create with them. Ottilie went on to say that The Expanse has a rich world that they’re excited to explore with Deck Nine.
Meanwhile, Deck Nine COO Jeff Litchford said that working on this game is both thrilling and intimidating. He said that they have long wanted to choose a character and story that hadn’t been told. He said further that they wanted something that players could influence but remain true to the TV series and the books.
For Alcon Interactive President George Collins, The Expanse has a lot to offer and they are happy to go deeper into the individual side stories. He assured fans that the TV show is in good hands.
