The surprising reveal of the Xbox Series S and Series X’s official release date also came with more information as to what the launch games will be for the two new Microsoft consoles. We already know the disappointment of not having Halo Infinite launching alongside Xbox’s next generation consoles, but Microsoft hopes that its recent push towards smaller and more involved titles will more than make up for it.
Case in point is The Falconeer, an open-world air combat RPG published by Wired Productions and developed by Tomas Sala. The game will release alongside the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, as well as on PC via Steam on November 10, making it one of the console’s exclusive launch titles – or whatever passes as ‘exclusive’ to Microsoft, anyways. The announcement came with a short 30-second teaser showing off the graphic capabilities to be expected with The Falconeer’s launch on the Xbox Series family of consoles. Check it out below.
Graphically speaking, the game looks gorgeous, sporting a striking art style. According to the press release, The Falconeer will also be coming to the Series X with 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. No information has been given with regards to the Series S version, but knowing the specs for that system we can speculate that it will be at 1440p with an option for 4K upscaling, although the frame rates may vary.
The Falconeer will also be one of many games on Xbox consoles to support Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system, which allows players who bought a game on an Xbox One to upgrade to the Series X version once they go next-gen. This is a good opportunity for those who want to play The Falconeer already, but are holding out on buying a new console for the foreseeable future.
Gameplaywise, you play as the Falconeer aboard a powerful Warbird – letting you relive those Lord of the Rings feels when Gandalf rode those giant eagles to save Frodo and Sam. However, instead of taking a more peaceful approach, The Falconeer lets you ride the Warbird for destructive purposes, with different Falconeer classes sporting different stats, weapons and warbirds to suit different playstyles.
The Falconeer is launching alongside the Xbox Series X and Series S as a launch title on November 10. It’s also coming out on PC via Steam on the same date.
