The latest Fallout 4 1.03 patch for PS4 and Xbox One arrived earlier this week and delivered a slew of improvements including gameplay updates such as a Settler assignment tracker tool that helps you optimize the efficiency of your settlements. What's more, Bethesda also introduced new graphical improvements and also stability improvements that enhances the overall visual quality of the game. However, how do the new updates made to Fallout 4 actually compare?
YouTuber DigitalFoundry shared a side-by-side video comparison that analyzes the changes to the graphics between the latest Fallout 4 1.03 patch and the previous 1.02 patch. The YouTube video features some key metrics of the gameplay to offer some interesting insight on the update. First, DigitalFoundry takes a look at the changes made to the Xbox One:
Fallout 4's vast open-world experience is its greatest strength but also its weakest link. The game has long been plagued with frame rate issues. Sadly, the latest 1.03 patch fails to solve the frame rate problem as the graph reveals dips in FPS, especially when the character is switching to a gun that has not been used in a while or if action is taken place in a visually dense environment. Long story short, DigitalFoundry determines no real performance gains as framerate drops on the Xbox One are just as frequent and low as the past. However, the video does confirm that the graphics are improved in terms of longer draw distances that stand to create a richer, more accurate backdrop. In fact, both consoles now closely match PC at high settings, save shadow renders, which are unchanged on both Xbox and PlayStation.
What about the PS4? Well, it looks like the patch has improved graphics on the system, but DigitalFoundry noted that there are significant framerate drops that affect some places in and around Diamond City. Framerates elsewhere remain the same as patch 1.02. Despite the drawback, the PS4 still manages to boast one extra FPS at Diamond City compared to Xbox.
Without further ado, check out the side-by-side comparison between Fallout 4 patch 1.03 and patch 1.02 on the two console systems as well as a Xbox One Vs. PlayStation 4 comparison as well:
