We’ve already put a number of hours into the new Far Harbor DLC for Fallout 4, and it’s been great so far. There do seem to be a few advantageous ways to play though, so follow these beginner’s tips to get yourself through the fog of Far Harbor with ease.
There’s no level requirement to start the Far Harbor content, but having multiple perks under your belt will certainly come in handy.
- Take Nick Valentine with you. Without spoiling too much, Valentine is tied to the story of Far Harbor. Without him by your side, you might miss important story angles and insights.
- If you need help finding Valentine, use our guide. That is, if you’re on PC. If you’re on console and you don’t know where he is, good luck
- Charisma! Load up on this stat to take advantage of the many new dialogue options available.
Some settlements don’t come with all of the workbenches either, so getting the Local Leader level 2 perk will be helpful as well since you need it to build workbenches.
Have plenty of Rad-X (or some other radiation countermeasure like Power Armor or a hazmat suit). The island is covered in radiation, so you’ll want to be protected wherever you go.
There are many dangerous creatures on the island, so using the Animal Friend perk can save your hide on multiple occasions
Because it’s an island, you can expect there to be tons of water everywhere. The Aquaboy/girl perk can definitely help you save on getting too irradiated
Empty your inventory before you go. This will allow you to stock up on all the new weapons and legendary items you are sure to find
Stocking up on chems like Jet, Buffout and the like can help you get the edge in combat
High level hacking and lockpicking will come in handy, but when doesn’t it?
Other than that, just play to your strengths. If you are a long-range build, keep abusing VATS like you have been in the past. Make sure you have a stock of food and Stimpaks by your side. And remember: have fun out there.
