At the U.K.’s EGX 2016 in Birmingham, Square Enix showed fans an extensive new gameplay demo of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. The video features Vaan, Basch, Balthier and Lamont exploring a town and interacting with NPCs before battling through a subterranean dungeon, fending off bats while dodging explosive traps and smoke bombs.
Set in the kingdom of Dalmasca, a young princess named Ashe forms a resistance against a foreign army. She joins forces with Vaan, an aspiring sky pirate orphaned during the war. Together with their allies, they wage war against evil throughout the magical world of Ivalice.

The remaster looks impressive; the battle animations are quick and smooth and the character models richly detailed. It’s hard to believe this game is a decade old!
Back in June, Square Enix announced the remastered PS2 title would feature an enhanced version of the character leveling dynamic known as the Zodiac Job System, enhanced graphics and sound, support for trophies, along with new sidequests and minigames. While Japan saw a re-release of FFXII with an enhanced job system, this will be the first time North American fans will have experienced a revamped version of the game.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is expected to see a simultaneous global release in 2017, though Square Enix has yet to confirm a precise release date.
