Five Nights At Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon just released the series’ sixth mainline game as Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator, and now he’s taking a break. An update to a Steam Community post from June offers answers to six of the most popular questions from fans.

Speaking on the subject of what’s next, Cawthon said, “I need a break… I want to make something more lighthearted as a way of relaxing… [and] it will be free.” Knowing that he’s made claims to deliberately fool his fans in the past, he also added “it’s not a troll.” That last bit comes off as an obvious joke considering Pizzeria Simulator is a troll in itself, but it also leaves just enough to the imagination to make us think he might actually be kidding. As FNaF fans know, Cawthon is a master at leaving his hungry fans wanting more. That stance seems all the more appropriate considering he concludes the source post by promising “I will return.”

Speaking of trolls, however, the release of Five Nights At Freddy’s 6 also raised some questions regarding Cawthon’s prior claim that the game had been canceled. He approached that sensitive subject far more directly:

“If a game's completion is in question, I would rather just say that it's cancelled, rather than say ‘I may get back to it at some point,’ because the second just puts people on hold indefinitely. If I ever did start work on it again, I'm not sure if I would pick up where I left off, or if I would completely start over.”

Such was apparently the case when the developer briefly shelved Five Nights At Freddy’s 6 at the end of June, but he admitted “things didn’t get conveyed as clearly as I would like” when it came to what happened afterward.

The Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise as a whole still has tremendous potential for expansion. After switching production companies in March, Cawthon still plans to make the Five Nights At Freddy’s movie. Given the cliffhanger ending to The Twisted Ones novel, we can also expect the FNaF book series to continue for at least one more entry. While taking a break from game development, we imagine those are the exact kinds of projects Cawthon might work on next.

Until that future endeavor is fully revealed, however, there’s still plenty left to discover in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator. All of the key endings have seemingly surfaced and most certificates have been earned, but we suspect Cawthon may be hiding a few more surprises. It will likely take a few more days with the game to be totally sure we’ve seen all of its secrets.

Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator is available now on Steam as a free download. Check out our guide if you need help with the game.
