There we have it folks, the first episode of The Flash Season 3 will pay homage to the traditional comic arc introduced in the Season 2 finale, ‘Flashpoint.’ Barry Allen will presumably wake up in an alternate timeline he caused by going back to his childhood and saving his mother, Nora Allen, from the the hands of the Reverse Flash.
The consequences of his actions? Earth’s natural timeline is turned upside down. Captain Cold is now Central City’s biggest hero, Citizen Cold. Superman and the Justice League are nowhere to be found, and Barry is forced to seek help from Gotham City’s finest, Batman. However, instead of Bruce, he finds a much angrier Bat in Thomas Wayne. The two work together to reconnect Barry to the speed force, then Barry merges with an old self, travels back, and resets the timeline, in turn uniting multiple universes into one.
We’ve never met Batman in the Arrowverse, so it’s unclear who The Flash will turn to at the start of Season 3. We have no idea if Team Flash will stay intact, or if DC TV’s version of Flashpoint will at all mirror the comics, especially considering Barry already lost his powers and went through electroshock therapy to regain them only a few episodes before he set Flashpoint into motion. One thing is for sure: This has to be the way The CW brings in Supergirl to the Arrowverse.
While we don’t know how or even if Flashpoint will affect Arrow and Legends , it would be a cool twist if Barry seeks out Oliver’s father, Robert Queen, who we know is Earth 2’s Green Arrow in place of Batman. We also know Superman is making an appearance in the first two episodes of Supergirl, but in the traditional Flashpoint arc, he’s actually MIA along with the rest of the Justice League. We won't know if Clark Kent's sudden cameo has anything to do with Flashpoint, or is just a way to give Supergirl the spark it needs for the Monday night slot on The CW.
As Grant Gustin warns, don’t expect a Flashpoint story all too familiar to the original (though Berlanti & Co. are never shy with easter eggs). It’s very probable that at least one member of Team Flash, hopefully Vibe, will be there to assist Barry. Since we know Cisco can see through dimensions and locate Barry no matter where he is, even in the Speed Force itself, his presence would be most valuable. Or, he could seek wisdom from his newfound ally, Jay Garrick aka The Flash of Earth 3. But if Vibe and Jay are nowhere to be found, could the newly-introduced JSA heroes from Legends swoop in on the Waverider to help out Barry? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
The Flash Season 3 premieres Oct. 6 on The CW.
