Fortnite will be updated next week, and that means a new city is coming to the Battle Royale map. In a recent development update tweet, Epic Games gave players a hint of its location and teased tweaks to the loot system.

Starting with the new city, the screenshot above shows exactly what it looks like. In-game descriptions suggest there’s some kind of underground mine section as well, but we can’t get a great look at that from here. The new area doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s situated on the western side of the map near Loot Lake.
This is just one part of Epic’s plan to make the Battle Royale map more exciting. In addition to clogging up empty space, the update more clearly defines biomes as well. Cities will be more cramped, swamps will be swampier and mountainous areas will have rougher terrain. These points of interest are designed to give players more reason to explore the territory.
Because there’s more loot to collect in the next Fortnite update, holiday-themed loot from the prior event will expire. Epic says it’s experimenting with more seasonal event concepts in the months ahead. In the meantime, the new city should soothe the sting of losing those bonus goodies.
Those who haven’t logged into Fortnite lately might want to check out the most recent additions like the Boogie Bomb, Cozy Campfire trap and silenced pistol. Similar to these recent patches, the next one includes a series of quality-of-life fixes to remove bugs and offer a more stable gameplay experience.
This new map section has been a fixture of the Fortnite community since late November, and it will only be a few days before everyone can experience it for themselves.
