Game Of Thrones mastermind George R.R. Martin isn’t exactly known for his political insight, but he recently threw his support behind Hillary Clinton, calling Donald Trump “unfit to lead this nation.”
In a blog post titled A Simple Observation, Martin catalogued what he’s witnessed while watching attack ads in the state of New Mexico. While both the Democrat and Republican candidates’ commercials are mostly rife with negativity and insults, from his perspective, GRRM sees a stark difference on the liberal side of the aisle.
“Trump commercials are all fairly standard political attack ads,” he writes, commenting on the fact that they use unflattering pictures of Clinton tied to buzzwords like “corrupt” or “liar.” The more rampant use of “blatant name-calling” is noted to be “Trump’s own original ugly contribution to lowering the tenor of political discourse,” but the rest of it is regarded as typical.
With Clinton, on the other hand, the Game Of Thrones writer sees a certain aura of truth brought on by Trump’s own brash actions. Instead of having to doctor or edit footage to exemplify her opponent’s demonic side, “there are no deliberately unflattering photographs, however. Nothing in black and white. Just video clips, full-color, professional footage from news cameras at his rallies, interviews, television appearances… Clinton’s ads just show Trump being Trump... Hillary does not need to use the sort of hoary attack ads that Trump is using. She only needs to present him as he is, and let his own words condemn them.”
With so many racial and policy-based blunders in mind, Martin cements his point by making the assertion that, when it comes to Trump, “there has never been a presidential candidate more unfit to lead this nation.” Those in support of Hillary will likely agree with this harsh assessment of Donald. Conservatives, however, may find it amusing that an ad espousing a candidate facing two concurrent FBI probes could ever be considered honest. However you feel, it’s clear who Martin wants on America’s Iron Throne.
Regardless, we’d be remiss if we said this publication frequently dwelled on issues of politics. Far beyond the election, we have a bunch of Game Of Thrones spoilers to get you prepared for season 7. We also have some viewing suggestions for those who want to watch something similar on Netflix in the meantime.
Game Of Thrones season 7 is expected to come to HBO in 2017.
