Gamescom is happening throughout the week, and as such gamers can expect a ton of new announcements surrounding highly anticipated titles, as well as new releases from publishers and developers. Nothing beats the excitement surrounding fresh news on upcoming titles, and these are at the center of the five-day major gaming event at the Koelmnesse in Germany. Now on Steam’s Early Access program, Hypercharge: Unboxed has finally announced its version 1.0 release will come in Winter. Along with its PC launch, a Nintendo Switch version will also come according to developer Digital Cybercherries.
In Hypercharge: Unboxed¸ players are put in the shoes of small plastic toy soldiers with one mission in mind: Protect the Hypercore by constructing turrets and building defenses. Taking a PvE multiplayer approach, the game allow for solo play, or up three players to cooperate (either online or locally) to protect and defend the Hypercore.
Gameplay revolves around building and fortifying structures, turrets, walls and setting traps to fight off hordes of weaponized toys. Success in defending these waves gives XP, allowing players to unlock skins, upgrade weapons, and customize their action figures. Hypercharge: Unboxed provides a multitude of locations as your battlefield, such as kitchens, backyards, bedrooms, and more. Gameplay-wise, it’s very reminiscent of the PlayStation 2 3D platform game Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue. Lastly, it also offers split-screen play for those who want to get the full couch co-op experience.
Hypercharge: Unboxed has been in its Steam Early Access Phase since June 22, 2017 and so far, it holds a solid Very Positive Rating on its Steam Page. The game is currently priced at $14.99, and no price has been confirmed yet for its final release.
