Gamescom is happening throughout the week, and as such gamers can expect a ton of new announcements surrounding highly anticipated titles, as well as new releases from publishers and developers. Nothing beats the excitement surrounding fresh news on upcoming titles, and these are at the center of the five-day major gaming event at the Koelmnesse in Germany. Be sure to stay tuned with us the whole week as we bring you the latest from Gamescom 2019 in the form of the latest trailers, announcements, news and other information drops on all the newest games hitting the market.
In just a month from now, Deck13 and Focus Home Interactive will release The Surge 2, the sequel to the futuristic sci-fi Souls-like from 2017. Over the past few weeks, there’s been a ton of new information for The Surge 2, and in the closed beta I played I found my first impressions to be incredibly positive, as Deck13 has taken a lot of steps to improve everything that made the first game a memorable, yet ultimately flawed experience.
For Gamescom 2019, publisher Focus Home Interactive has released a new trailer that covers the meat of what puts The Surge 2 in the running for one of the best action games of the year: the gameplay. This new trailer details the aspects of the limb-based combat system, the many upgrade paths for your equipment, the wide variety of weapons to choose from and of course, how you will overcome the many challenges thrown at you by Jericho City. Check out the trailer below.
While I’ve covered a lot about the combat (check it out here) and other asynchronous multiplayer aspects of the game (check it out here), this is the first time the publisher revealed much of the backstory surrounding the events of The Surge 2. Your character is the sole survivor of a plane crash that is on the way to Jericho City, and if I had to make a guess based on what I’ve seen so far, the events from the ending of The Surge ties in neatly to this plane crash. Weeks later, your character wakes up in a detention facility, which then covers the entirety of the closed beta’s content. From here on out, it’s up to you to try and survive the horrors that have struck the city and its many citizens.
The Surge 2 will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 24.
Be sure to stick around for more news on the latest happenings in Gamescom all throughout the week.
