We got our first live-action glimpse of Ghost Rider earlier this week. Now we have confirmation that Robbie Reyes’ brother, Gabe, will join the Agents of SHIELD Season 4 cast as well. Fear The Walking Dead ’s Lorenzo James Henrie has picked up the role.
With both of their parents dead, Robbie is tasked with providing for his younger brother while they finish school. Part of Robbie’s motivation to rid L.A. of gangs is to protect his disabled brother, Gabe. If he had won the street race (where he eventually became Ghost Rider), he was going to use the prize money to move his brother out of L.A.
Robbie Reyes was just a young mechanic before the street race where he stepped into a car inhabited by the ghost of Eli Morrow. Eli possesses Robbie’s body after Robbie is shot to death. In the comics, Robbie later finds out Eli, the demon trapped inside him, is his long-lost uncle who was a serial killer. Eli was also the one who pushed Robbie’s mother down the stairs while she was pregnant with Gabe, which caused his disabilities. Ghost Rider is considered an anti-hero because he made a compromise with Eli to kill only people with evil souls.
Robbie’s relationship with his black muscle car is telekinetic. In Ghost Rider form, Robbie can teleport to or become one with his car. Ghost Rider can remotely control his car, and his trunk is a portal that can teleport people anywhere. When Ghost Rider’s in his fiery form, his supernatural powers render bullets and knives uneffective, making him nearly indestructible.
Executive Producer Jed Whedon spoke with TV Line this week and assured fans Ghost Rider will be everything we’ve hoped for. “He’s a violent character who comes with a lot of blood and a lot of fire… His skull will be on fire exactly as much as we can afford!”
Agents of SHIELD Season 4 episode 1, ‘The Ghost’ Premieres Sept. 20.
