The rumors and leaks are all true. Ghostbuster: The Video Game is being remastered for modern consoles, and will see a release sometime this year on the PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox One and PC.
The game was originally launched in 2009. It was developed by Red Fly Studio for PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Wii. Terminal Reality developed it for PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360. Finally, Zen Studios developed the Nintendo DS port. All of these versions were published by Atari. The script of the game was made with a little help from the writers of the original movie, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, to keep everything as authentic as possible. The game’s rights are now in the hands of Saber Interactive and Mad Dog Games, who will join hands to create this remaster.
A trailer has been released for the remastered version of the game and all we know right now is that the visuals have been definitely updated, and that the original cast will still be the voice actors of their characters.
Ghostbuster: The Video Game is a third-person shooting game. You take on the role of an unnamed original character that the Ghostbusters would call “Rook”, “Newbie”, “Cadet”, “New Guy”, and others. You get to be a new recruit of this paranormal team. You explore the environment of every level looking for unusual events and ghosts. Some missions will be done alone or with the four other Ghostbusters.
The main story of Ghostbusters: The Video Game takes place on Thanksgiving Day 1991, two years after the events of the Ghostbusters II movie. The team of ghost hunters takes in a new recruit that they call “Rookie,” as Dr. Venkman told them not to get attached. After that, a massive PKE shockwave hits New York City sending the Ghostbusters a number of calls. Through these missions, you are closely observed by Walter Peck, the head of the Paranormal Contracts Oversight Commission (PCOC), to prevent them from causing too much damage to the city.
In case it interests you, there is also a new Ghostbusters movie currently in production that will probably be released in 2020. The original director of Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman, passed down its legacy to his son, Jason Reitman.
We’ll have to wait for more info about the remastered version of Ghostbusters: The Video Game from its developers and publishers. All we know for now is that it’s coming this year. Stay tuned for more updates.
