We've known for quite some time that God of War Ragnarök is coming in 2022. However, we may have narrowed it down when it’s coming out, thanks to a new leak. As of this writing, the game is expected to launch on September 30, 2022.
The alleged release date was leaked by PlayStation Game Size, a Twitter account that tracks the backend changes happening in the PlayStation database. You can check out the original tweet here.
The tweet also suggests the game may be arriving in fall 2022. However, that same tweet mentioned that it may be a placeholder date. Regardless, we got a specific date to mark on the calendar.
God of War Ragnarök is the ninth game in the franchise coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It’s a sequel to the 2018 God of War game and features Kratos and his teenage son Atreus.
Ragnarök is set three years after the previous game. It’s said that Fimbulwinter is almost at an end and when that happens, the prophecy says that Ragnarök then begins. Now a teenager, Atreus is still reeling from the revelations made. In addition to looking for answers on his identity as Loki, he also needs to find a way to prevent Ragnarök.
To learn the truth, both Kratos and Atreus must look for the giant Norse God of War Týr, who is said to have died. As the duo travels across the nine realms, they face new threats including the God of Thunder himself. Even Freya is seeking vengeance against Kratos.
The game was first announced in September 2020 and since then has been considered as one of the most anticipated games. In fact, it won as the Most Wanted Game during the 2020 Golden Joystick Awards and Most Anticipated Game at the PlayStation Blog awards. God of War Ragnarök was supposed to be released this year. However, development was delayed due to the pandemic.
Whether it’s launching in September, let’s hope it does get out in 2022. What about you? What are your thoughts on this news?
