New details on the development of God of War are out this week, along with a disappointing revelation about Sony Santa Monica’s promotional plans, and the latest word from God of War creative director Cory Barlog should please those uninterested in the PS4 Pro.
In a series of tweets, first spotted by TechnoAisle , Barlog answers a handful of fan questions about Sony Santa Monica’s plans for pre-launch promotion and potentially embracing the upcoming PS4 Pro. The information revealed was sort of a mixed bag. So, naturally, we’ll start with the bad news: There won’t be a demo for God of War . It’s not entirely shocking because, as Barlog mentions, each new demo adds several months to the development cycle. Rather than push back one of the most anticipated games currently in development, the God of War team wants to eliminate any potential obstacles that would prevent the game from debuting as quickly as possible.
On the plus side, millions of PlayStation 4 owners will be pleased to hear they don’t need to upgrade to the PS4 Pro to get the visual experience shown over the summer. Barlog says the God of War demo shown at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo was built for (and running on) the current PS4 hardware. He even goes one step further, saying the final game will also target the base PS4 hardware and that gamers “ don’t need a Pro to play.” So any potential upgrades from the PS4 Pro, which debuts next month, should only make the game look better.

God of War is in development exclusively for PlayStation 4. The game debuts in 2017.
