Since its explosive rollout in early 2024, "Helldivers 2" has enthralled players with its Galactic War and regular content updates. But, as the co-op shooter gets bigger, so do its bugs, particularly on PC.
Quite a few players, especially with older hardware setups, have noticed serious performance downturns, stuttering frame rates, and even game-terminating bugs. Now, though, Arrowhead Game Studios announced that relief is on the way.
PC Players Struggle as Content Demands Increase
The game's success has largely hinged on its evolving battlefields and live-service model. However, according to Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani via VG247, that same content-rich environment is now straining performance.
"While I'm here, regarding performance: we are 100% aware performance ain't great now. We're tracking closely and have numerous things in motion. We'll be sharing details on what we'll do in the not-too-distant future. We appreciate the patience until we get back to our usual performance," Jorjani wrote.
Jorjani noted that with each new addition to gameplay, performance requirements automatically escalate — pushing the development team into reaction optimization loops. He hopes that the future updates will provide content with less overhead in terms of performance.
Content Overload: The Double-Edged Sword of Live Service Games
New guns, armor packs, missions, and current war news have turned Helldivers 2 into one of the year's most dynamic shooters. But with this expansion came a price tag.
The present Galactic War mode is full of heavy action scenarios, orbital bombardments, and visual effects — all putting more and more pressure on players' systems.
Even PlayStation 5 owners have complained of perceivable frame rate drops when fights intensify, suggesting that a technical limit could be looming if significant optimizations are not implemented.
Killzone Crossover Returns: StA-52 Assault Rifle Coming Back Soon
Jorjani also spoke to community outcry over the Killzone crossover guns. The StA-52 Assault Rifle, which made its first appearance during Phase 1 of the partnership, will be back in the Superstore — in spite of not being included in recent rotations.
Jorjani said that Arrowhead wants it back ASAP, but things get in the way. He promised fans that it won't take too long before they return.
After initial criticism regarding excessive costs, the second batch of Killzone cosmetics was given away for free. As a result, the Superstore was expanded to include several pages of rotating goods that could be obtained through Super Credits.
No Chill Yet: Frost Weapons May Not Be Coming Anytime Soon
Although fire and gas weapons are already heavily featured in gameplay, fans in hopes of frost-based weaponry could be left shivering. In response to an inquiry, Jorjani indicated frost weapons have not been seriously considered within Arrowhead, according to ScreenRant.
While not exactly a "no," the lackluster reply indicates these weapons are not at the top of the list, at least not yet.
