2019 is looking like it’s going to be a good year for Nintendo Switch ports, and the same can be said for fans of more serious racing games.
GRID Autosport, Codemasters’ ninth entry in their long-running TOCA series, is coming to the Nintendo Switch this summer. The game boasts more than 100 cars and 100 circuits, and features expansive DLC as well as tilt controls. The game is currently available across all platforms, including mobile, so the news that the game is coming to the Switch is certainly good news for both Nintendo and racing fans alike.
GRID Autosport’s release on the Switch is an answer to the slim pickings of serious racing games on the platform. The game includes both local and co-op multiplayer, and is set to include all available DLCs on launch. A recent posting on GameMedia – a video game retailer based in the Netherlands – suggested that the game might even see a physical release. The developer itself hasn’t really made a statement of sorts, but judging from the fact that the retailer has a pre-order page up for it, it seems very likely.
GRID Autosport’s release is also part of a growing trend to port more graphically intensive games to the handheld beast. Just recently, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice made its way to the Switch, and while there are signs of downgrading in order to match the obviously lighter hardware, it still looks, sounds, and plays well on the console. We can only hope that this trend continues upwards, so that many more players are able to enjoy games on the go, and of greater variety than any handheld has ever offered.
If racing isn’t your forte, then here are some more Switch games expected to be ported in the future, or just new games to be released:
