GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption are some of the most beloved games by Rockstar. Fans have been asking for remasters of these two games for a long time now, and it seems their wish won’t come true after all.
The Rumor
Tez2, a prominent leaker of Rockstar Games, makes some interesting claims. According to them, remasters of GTA 4 and RDR were on the table a while back. However, because of the poor reception of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, Rockstar decided not to go forward with them.
Why Both Games Must Be Remastered
Both games are in a weird state. GTA 4 and RDR were initially released on seventh-gen consoles, and both PS4 and PS5 can’t play either of the games. However, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players can play both via backward compatibility but they are locked at 30 FPS, not exactly an ideal experience.
GTA 4 PC Version
GTA 4 is available on PC, though its PC port isn’t something to write home about. The game still suffers from several technical issues that need fixing. Many fans have come forward and decided to fix the game themselves. You can check out our previous article to know more about it.
RDR PC Version
At least GTA 4 was released on PC, unlike Red Dead Redemption which never received a PC port. You can technically play the game via emulators but the experience and framerate will be quite bad. RDR's absence on PC really sucks as many RDR2 fans will love to continue John Marston’s story.
A remake is better than a remaster is what I always say. RDR will benefit greatly from a remake since it's quite old, while RDR2 already featured half of RDR’s map, so I don’t see why Rockstar won’t go forward with it. A chunk of work is already done.
