The success story of Grand Theft Auto 5 doesn’t seem to stop. The critically acclaimed game by Rockstar continues to break more and more milestones. The game's publisher, Take-Two Interactive, revealed during an investor call that GTA 5 has now sold over 140 million copies.
Copies Sold and High Player Count
They also revealed that since May of 2020, the game has sold more than 10 million copies. The only other time GTA 5 sold this many copies was during the initial launch in 2013. Investor call further reported that 2020 saw the highest player count for GTA Online. This is probably because of the continuous support provided by Rockstar.
GTA 5 has received several free updates that added tons of new things to the online component of the game. The latest update brought a completely new heist and a full island for players to explore.
Future
It’s only going to get better from here on out. GTA 5 is getting a next-gen update for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in the second half of 2021. Exclusive content for GTA Online will also be made available for next-gen and PC versions of the game.
The online version of GTA 5 is coming to PlayStation 5 as well. But the game is standalone and will not include the single-player mode. Rockstar’s latest game, Red Dead Redemption 2, features an online-only version too, which is available for purchase. You can buy the standalone version on all platforms for $5 till February 15.
In other news, Rockstar still hasn’t revealed any information about the yet-to-be-confirmed GTA 6. Though a recent patent by Rockstar suggests that GTA 6 will have the smartest NPCs ever.
