Just when we thought Rockstar would wind down major DLC updates for GTA, we're excited to learn the latest GTA Online Smuggler's Run DLC arrives Tuesday, Aug. 29. As the name of the big update suggests, Smuggler's Run is another booming black market industry, this time thriving over the skies of Los Santos and Blaine County.
Smuggler's Run reintroduces us to Nervous Ron Jakowski, who is looking for a business partner to help him smuggle some goods by flying and airdropping them to his clients. However, business is so good that his rivals want a cut:
"Business is good, and business is bad," Ron begins. "On one hand, we got more orders than we can possibly handle. And on the other, I'll be suprised if we're not killed in the next 48 hours!
"Make the drop, man the guns, take out the guards. Should be breezy."
With the new airdrop missions, obviously there's new attention towards aircrafts. Smuggler's Run will introduce players to new, customizable aircraft to complete any weird favors Nervous Ron will request. Players will also get to purchase aircraft hangar property to stash your flying squadron.
But the new GTA Online Smuggler's Run DLC update isn't all business either. Up for a race during your down time? GTA Online will feature a new stunt racing mode. Transform Races will seamlessly have you race across road, skies and sea. According to Rockstar, "strategically placed checkpoints will instantly change your vehicle class to match the portion of the course ahead, creating dynamic racing with ever shifting challenges to take the checkered flag."
As with every new GTA Online update, we can expect some new aircrafts, vehicles and general content to come with it. Rockstar didn't specifically announce all the new content yet, but it did tease a couple, including one new car in a tweet yesterday:
Rockstar announced Grotti Visione will be one of the new Super class vehicles coming in the new update, suggesting there's another Super class car joining the Visione come Smuggler's Run launch date.
As for airplanes, we learned about the Alpha Z-1 prop plane, the Tula flying ship, and a vintage jet engine. In the latest screenshot from Sunday, we see a new fighter jet. Rockstar calls it the V-65 Molotok, which will feating a deep arsenal including homing missiles and sdrop tanks. Next, another screenshot features an ultralight glider, which while a lot less exciting, is at least expected to be a lot more affordable. Finally, we see what appears to be a bomber doing its bomber thing. Rockstar's caption sheds a little more light regarding the type of things players will get to do to their aircraft once the update drops: "Customize the new Smugger's Run aircraft in your Hangar's Aircraft Workshop, from engine upgrades to cluster bomb abilities."
We will certainly have a better idea regarding the new GTA Online Smuggler's Run DLC once it is officially available for download on Tuesday, Aug. 29. While Rockstar doesn't have an official download time, insiders noted that new GTA Online DLCs typically release at 1 to 2 a.m. PDT, or 4 to 5 a.m. EST. Media outlets in the UK also noted that downloads began at at 11 a.m. in Europe.
