If you’re one of those excited for Halo Infinite, then prepare for some bad news. It looks like the game is going to be delayed to 2021. Like we said, bad news indeed.
In a statement release on Twitter, Halo Infinite Studio Head Chris Lee said that while it was a difficult decision, the delay is meant to give the team “adequate time to deliver a Halo game experience that meets our vision.”
There are a lot of factors that led to the decision to delay the release, but it’s clear that a lot of it has to do with the COVID-19 pandemic. Lee went on to say that while he acknowledges all the hard work done by the team at 343 Industries, the reality was that it wasn’t “sustainable for the well-being of our team or the overall success of the game to ship it this holiday”
Lee admits that this is going to be disappointing to many and that 343 Industries shares in the sentiment. He went on to say that the passion and support that the community has shown over the years has been inspiring and that they “wanted nothing more than to play out game with the community this holiday.”
The replies on Twitter have been rather mixed, with some saying that the delay is a good thing and others claiming it wasn’t a surprise. Indeed, it may not come as a surprise to some especially as The Verge reported back in May that none other than Microsoft's Xbox Chief Phil Spencer revealed that while the Xbox Series X console was still on schedule, game production was a little uncertain.
Still, that didn’t stop Microsoft from moving forward and showing a demo of the game during the Xbox Games Showcase back in July. At that time the reception of was rather mixed, with some fans saying that Halo Infinite's graphics were underwhelming for what was expected to be a next-gen title. This resulted in 343 Industries Community Manager John Junyszek promising fans that the studio is going to work on improving the game’s overall fidelity. You can read more about that here.
