This week’s Hearthstone Tavern Brawl is The Great Stone Of Challenge, based on the first Challengestone, Kripparrian's own tournament series focused on deck-building. It’s definitely more complicated than some previous Tavern Brawls, forcing you to create a deck with even cost spells and only minions with odd attack. It’s a fun concept that really showed off some of the community’s best deck builders back in 2015, and now the rest of us have the same opportunity.
Many of Hearthstone’s best neutral minions happen to have odd health, most of which weren’t available the first time this Tavern Brawl was released. Vicious Fledgeling, Stonehill Defender and Cobalt Scalebane are all high-value minions that you’ll want to keep around. Throw in a Bonemare and a Tar Creeper and a third of the deck is already finished. All of these scaly critters work perfectly in a Control deck, and guess which class has the best even spells? Paladin! Using combat-coldcuts list on the Hearthstone subreddit, I managed to win five games in a row, though they weren’t the best opponents. Using Fen Creeper and Sludge Belcher might sound like a good idea, but the meta is much too fast for cards like that to work consistently.

If something a little less meta is to your liking, allow Rexxar to show you in. Since this Tavern Brawl uses Wild rules, you can get away with using some of Hearthstone ’s forgotten tools. Back when Face Hunter dominated the ladder ranks, Glaivezooka was either your best friend or your worst enemy. Getting that extra one attack on a cheap minion allowed you to trade up, and it’s even more useful with all the value minions that dominate this Brawl. A buffed Alley Cat and weapon swing can kill Stonehill Defender , Tar Creeper and Vicious Fledgeling . You use traps and Eaglehorn Bow to push your control in the mid game and a Death Knight to build late-game powerhouses.
I doubt this deck is as consistent as the other deck lists here, but it’s way more fun. Here’s the list from Izy on reddit:
