Blizzard will officially announce the next Hearthstone expansion at the Winter Championships live on twitch today at 1 p.m. EST. Whispers of the Old Gods was leaked as the name when reddit detectives spotted a wall mural being painted in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which features Blizzard’s logo and art style. As of right now, the mural’s words have been covered, but the Stranglethorn Tiger is already out of the bag.
Tycsports , a Spanish website, revealed that the expansion will be based on the Old Gods, four all-powerful beings that helped shape the world (of Warcraft). The set will contain 134 cards, with 16 of those being minions that buff the Old God cards. The expansion will come out in April or early May.
The article adds that the long-awaited format change will take place sometime next week. Reddit mods have confirmed with Blizzard that standard and wild will not go live with the next patch. I cannot be more excited to see what Blizzard gives us this time. Each new expansion set comes with a new mechanic, like discover or joust, which adds a whole new level of play to the game. Hopefully these Old God buff cards will be viable and not as gimmicky as they sound.
Blizzard has yet to confirm any details revealed in the article or the mural, so we’ll have to wait for the twitch stream to know how much of this information is actually real.
