The title of the next Hearthstone expansion appears to have been confirmed by a wall painting, of all sources, just 24 hours before Blizzard press event would have given the company a chance to reveal Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods.
A member of the Hearthstone sub-reddit spotted an unfinished wall advertisement for the game’s next expansion on their way to work Wednesday morning. It’s not clear where That_Azzin saw the wall painting, other than somewhere in Williamsburg, but the artwork certainly matches what we’ve come to expect from Blizzard’s digital card game. The timing makes sense, since Blizzard already announced plans to reveal the next Hearthstone expansion via live stream on Friday night.
Unfortunately, we don’t know anything else about Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods at this time. Since the artwork was unfinished, and Blizzard hasn’t said much up to this point, it’s hard to know what to expect from the next Hearthstone expansion. And it doesn’t sound like there’s much hope of learning anything else from the wall painting before Blizzard makes the official announcement on Friday.
According to That_Azzin, the company responsible for putting up the artwork has since covered the painting with green tape, preventing anyone else from taking pictures before the announcement. So you’ll have to wait until this weekend to get a personal photo. To make matters worse, the one follow-up photo the user managed to take doesn’t show all that much progress from the original image. On the bright side, Hearthstone fans don’t have to wait long to learn more about Whispers of the Old Gods.
