Arrowhead Game Studios sparked outcry among the community after releasing the Helldivers 2 x Killzone 2 collaboration over the super high price of cosmetics.
A studio developer said that the latest crossover is part of the Helldivers 2's new tier of special Premium content. The content of the post suggests that more collaborations are planned for the game moving forward.
Hellidvers 2 x Killzone 2 Crossover
The Steam post said that they decided a long time ago that they will only do crossovers if and when they make perfect sense for Helldivers 2. It added that they were excited to announce their very first crossover, which was with Killzone 2.
The latest crossover is currently available in the Superstore and features a new armor set, primary weapon, player banner, cape, and player title. Arrowhead Game Studios plans to make a second batch of items to be available starting on Dec. 23, 2024.
The studio's post about the crossover also hinted at other content that is planned to be added to Helldivers 2. It added that there are additional Killzone 2 rewards for all players that they can get depending on their success in the Galactic War, according to Eurogamer.
The new collaboration also marks the beginning of a much longer rotation of items in the Helldivers 2 store. This is all coming about as Arrowhead Game Studios temporarily tests a five-day rotation for the game.
Expensive Cosmetic Items
The post noted that many of the players feel that the items currently in rotation are available only for a short period of time. This means that people usually miss out on the things that they really want to buy.
The Killzone 2 collaboration also sparked controversy among Helldivers 2 players due to the extremely high price of the cosmetics included. In particular, the new armor will cost you 500 Super Credits if you want it, IGN said.
On the other hand, the new cape is 310 Super Credits, the new helmet is 310 Super Credits, and the assault rifle is a whopping 615 Super Credits.
What makes things worse is that they will only be available for five days, giving players little time to save up and get them.
The new assault rifle in the Killzone 2 crossover alone will already cost players roughly $7 to purchase.
Comparing this to the typical Helldivers 2 warbond that includes several armor sets, guns, and other cosmetics that only cost $10, it is easy to see why people are mad, according to PCGamer.
