Hitman 2 was one good looking game, however, for IO Interactive, that wasn't enough. The developer is aiming to improve the graphics and technical aspects of the franchise even more. Hitman 3 is supposed to be a ‘big leap forward’ in the technology department.
To achieve that goal, IO Interactive need more horsepower and the PS5 is going to provide that. IO Interactive will take full advantage of quick loading provided by the PS5's solid state harddrive. This will make the game much more immersive.
“Hitman is a game about experimentation," Game Director Mattias Engström said in an interview with PlayStation Official Magazine (by way of Wccftech). "We invite the player into a sandbox, and we let them experiment the way they want. Therefore, we see the save/load as an important feature to encourage just that. The blitz-fast load times we are seeing on the PS5 makes it the perfect home for the Hitman trilogy, encouraging experimentation more than ever.”
Hitman 3 was announced via the PlayStation 5 event last month, so it makes sense that game development is focusing more on the PS5. You will also see loading improvement in Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2, as these games will be ported into Hitman 3.
Speaking of graphical improvements that will also be made, screen-space reflection in Hitman 3 is drastically improved. The reflections in the previous game were mind-blowing, so we will love to see how the devs improve upon it. And of course, these improvements will carry forward to the previous two Hitman game as well.
“Specifically, screen-space reflections are truly pushed to the limit in Hitman 3. These improvements will be added across the trilogy.” Engström said in the magazine interview. “The other day Dag, one of our tech artists, showed me some before and after shots on the Paris fashion show and the difference in quality was mind-blowing to me.”
Hitman 3 will mark the end of the new Hitman trilogy. Actual gameplay footage of the game hasn’t been released yet, however, that should change soon. Hitman 3 will launch on January 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Stadia.
