There’s no shortage of new information on Homefront: The Revolution this week, thanks to a recent preview event and a new trailer, but word that Deep Silver’s upcoming open-world shooter will support cooperative play might be the most exciting new feature in Homefront: The Revolution.
Back in August, Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios surprised fans when the two companies announced plans to host a multiplayer beta for Homefront: The Revolution. Details were scarce, at the time, and no one was quite sure what to expect from the announcement. Would Homefront: The Revolution feature the same tacked-on deathmatch we see in any/every new shooter to hit the market? Or, worse, would it be another take on the Horde mode popularized by the Gears of the War franchise?
Thankfully, a recent media event at Dambuster Studios is giving the general public a better idea of what to expect from Homefront: The Revolution’s multiplayer component. According to Eurogamer, the cooperative missions in Homefront form their own mini-campaign that “[run] deep with role-playing systems”, including persistent leveling. Players will even create a separate character for Homefront: The Revolution’s online campaign, going as far as to choose the pre-war background of their new avatar.
As if an entire online campaign wasn’t enough reason to get excited about Homefront: The Revolution, Deep Silver published a new trailer for the upcoming open-world shooter on Tuesday morning. The new clip isn’t particularly long, clocking it at just under two minutes, but does offer a detailed look at the kinds of guerilla warfare American forces will have to rely on to free themselves from the KPA.
While new footage is always appreciated, I suspect fans will be a bit fonder of this Homefront: The Revolution trailer than previously released videos. That’s because the last few seconds of this week’s trailer reveal Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios’ plans for the upcoming Homefront: The Revolution closed beta. For those who may have forgotten, the multiplayer beta will be exclusive to Xbox One; however, those with the proper console (and a beta key) will get their first chance to play the upcoming Homefront sequel on Feb. 11. There’s no word on when the beta will end.
