New rumors from a trusted (but semi-secret) member of the video game industry suggest Horizon Zero Dawn, the third-person action game being developed by Guerilla Games, won’t actually be ready for distribution by the end of the year.
If you’ve spent much time on the NeoGAF forums, or certain gamer-centric corners of Twitter, you’re likely familiar with Shinobi602. The semi-anonymous user frequently releases interesting tidbits of insider information, via tweets and GAF posts, that are frequently proven to be true in time. Sadly, the latest word from everyone’s favorite, game-focused Dennis Nedry is that one of the most exciting new PlayStation 4 games in development is being pushed back to 2017.
On Thursday afternoon, Shinobi returned to his Twitter account with two shocking revelations. The first, that Horizon Zero Dawn won’t be available in 2016 as originally expected. The second, that the game will be one of the first “PS4K” ( shorthand for Sony’s rumored next console). It’s not clear how Guerrilla plans to take advantage of the new console’s extra power, or what sorts of NEO-exclusive features we might see in the game, but Shinobi does specifically call out the potential for better visuals.
Unfortunately, there’s been no word from Sony or Guerilla on the reported Horizon Zero Dawn delay. We’ve reached out to Guerilla Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment, hoping to get more information, and will update this post if/when we hear back from either company.
Be sure to check back with iDigitalTimes.com and follow Scott on Twitter for additional Horizon Zero Dawn coverage throughout 2016 and however long Guerilla Games continues to support Horizon Zero Dawn in the years following launch.
