How to Play as Godzilla in 'Fortnite': Complete Guide to the Kaiju's Epic Invasion

The King of the monsters is now in "Fortnite."

The legendary kaiju, Godzilla, has finally touched down in "Fortnite," bringing his gigantic size and destructive powers onto the island. Epic Games officially confirmed the rumors on Jan. 17 after months of leaks and speculation.

With Godzilla's history stretching back decades, his arrival in "Fortnite" brings chaos to a new level. If you want to use this monster soon, here's what you need to know.

Why Did Godzilla Join 'Fortnite?' 'Monsterverse' Meets Battle Royale

Fortnite

Godzilla has been a staple in cinemas since the 1950s. His first film was a direct response to the aftermath of World War II, and through time, he's evolved from being a destructive monster to a force that symbolized the power of nature.

In the latest "Monsterverse" iteration, Godzilla stands as a neutral protector of Earth, only bringing destruction where necessary to maintain balance.

How to Become Godzilla in 'Fortnite:' Unleash the Kaiju

While Godzilla may be gigantic, a player in Fortnite can actually get a feel for his power since they can temporarily become the beast during a game. To achieve this, there is a slight chance and planning involved. To do this:

  • Find the Godzilla Portal: The way to become Godzilla is to find a random portal that spawns at the start of the game. If a portal spawns, players will be notified with the message, "Godzilla portal is open."
  • Rush to the Portal: Once you see the portal icon on the map, rush towards it. Only one player can enter at a time, so speed and positioning are important.
  • Unleash Godzilla's Power: Once a player enters inside, they get transformed into Godzilla, with their devastating abilities–atomic breath, a mighty stomp, and a roar showing all the other players nearby.

How to Kill Godzilla in 'Fortnite:' A Team Effort

Should another player go Godzilla, now your mission shifts to taking out the rampaging kaiju. With his size and the health pool Godzilla has, getting him down does require teamwork, and planning beforehand.

Godzilla's Abilities

  • Roar: Exposes nearby players, making it easier for Godzilla to track down enemies.
  • Heat Ray: A massive blast of fiery energy that does tremendous damage.
  • Mighty Stomp: Crushes everything in Godzilla's path with his enormous feet.

Players have to attack Godzilla's weak points to defeat him. If the player inflicts damage on those weak points, fragments will fall, which can be consumed for health boosts and dash charges. These are necessary to maintain agility in the fight.

The player who inflicted the most damage on Godzilla gets the Godzilla Medallion, which gives the player extra abilities, such as a recharging dash and the powerful Burst Quad Launcher.

Unlock the Godzilla Skin and Other Monsterverse Cosmetics

Besides transforming into the massive kaiju in-game, "Fortnite" also gives the Godzilla Evolved outfit as part of the limited-time 鬼 HUNTERS Battle Pass.

You can earn the outfit by completing all associated quests. The outfit glows with increased power as you rack up eliminations—emulating Godzilla's increasing strength in the Monsterverse.

Extra cosmetics include the Exo-Spine Back Bling, Crystal Fang Pickaxe, Mothra Glider, and Lil' Godzilla Attack Emote. They can also buy a Mechagodzilla & Kong Bundle featuring their respective outfit and gear.

For those who want to really embody Godzilla, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, known as "Godzilla," is in the shop and comes with unique decals and wheels.

How Long Can You Be Godzilla in 'Fortnite?'

The good news for "Fortnite" fans is that the Godzilla Evolved outfit and other Monsterverse cosmetics are still available until Feb. 21—the final day of the 鬼 HUNTERS Battle Pass. However, after Jan. 31, players will no longer be able to transform into the colossal Godzilla, as the portals to become the kaiju have permanently closed.

While players will lose the opportunity to be Godzilla, the limited-time event provides extra excitement for the fans of Fortnite who are yearning to taste the chaos caused by Godzilla.

On Feb. 21, a new season is supposed to begin with "heists," and that should be the closing curtain for the Monsterverse crossover and the Godzilla reign over Fortnite—at least until he is resurrected once again.

And just like any true Godzilla, when the job is over, he heads back to the depths and waits for another call to come and wreak havoc again.
