Publisher Ubisoft has just announced its entry in the battle royale genre race with Hyper Scape, which is described as a free-to-play fast-paced urban battle royale first-person shooter. It is slated to release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Ubisoft has also announced that players have a chance to participate in a limited-time PC technical test in a number of territories across North America and Europe.
Hyper Scape is a free-to-play battle royale where up to 100 contenders engage in both shooting and close quarters combat in the futuristic virtual city of Neo-Arcadia. Players can either go solo or team with their friends to form a three-player squad. The game takes on the tried and tested formula of battle royale shooters with players landing on the ground and looting for better gear, a shrinking map, and the main goal of being the last player or squad standing. However, Hyper Scape puts a lot of its own twists and spins on the genre.
First off, Hyper Scape has introduced Hacks, which are abilities that can be looted throughout the map. There are three main classes of Hacks, namely Offensive, Defensive, and Movement. Some examples are laying down mines, scouting enemies, building a wall to protect your location, or turning invisible to sneak up on unsuspecting squads. Players can swap Hacks for the duration of the game. Picking up Hacks (also weapons) of the same type can upgrade your current Hack, improving cooldown or effects. Weapons can also be improved, such as increased magazine size, damage, or rate of fire.
Other ways that Hyper Scape spices up the genre is by introducing battle events, which are random and provide certain effects such as low gravity, infinite ammo, and more. Finally, the way to win Hyper Scape is to survive until you reach the last of Neo-Arcadia's seven districts which decay one by one. Once there is only one district remaining, the Hyper Crown will spawn. Players can either pick up the crown and survive for 45 seconds or remain the last squad standing by eliminating everybody else.
Hyper Scape is set to launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. No release date has been confirmed yet.
