In an effort to prove Dr. Ian Malcolm will always be right about the propagation of dinosaur life, Frontier Developments announced plans to release their second theme park builder, Jurassic World Evolution, on PC and consoles next year. Details on the project remain scarce. But the first JWE trailer offers some idea of what to expect from Jurassic World Evolution in 2018.
The footage in this week’s trailer is all pre-rendered, which will be important to remember in a few months when there are NeoGAF and reddit threads complaining about visual downgrades, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer for actual gameplay footage. But we do get an artist’s rendition of some basic game functions, like placing an emergency services building near the site where a Tyrannosaurus rex has escaped from its pen. The trailer also suggests attraction placement will require a fair amount of planning. Dinosaur escapes are probably an inevitable part of building a zoo and filling it with gargantuan reptiles. We’d like to think you don’t always have to lose other attractions, or park visitors, when the most dangerous ones get loose. But maybe we’re wrong.
Last, but certainly not least, an InGen logo appears on the rescue chopper from the Jurassic World Evolution announcement trailer. Since we don’t have a timeline for the game yet, it’s hard to know what sort of shape we should expect the company (which has served as a secondary antagonist throughout the series) to be in at the start of Jurassic World Evolution ’s campaign/story mode (assuming there is one).
For an early look at Jurassic World Evolution, take a few minutes to watch the announcement trailer that debuted on Sunday. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re excited about the prospect of building your own dinosaur-themed amusement park when Jurassic World Evolution debuts next year.
Jurassic World Evolution is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game is slated to hit all three platforms in summer 2018.
