It’s always fun watching a trailer for a video game that features a Hollywood star. This time, it’s Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom. He not only stars in the latest trailer for King of Avalon but also makes his debut as a playable character. That’s right! Bloom is in the game as the free hero Orlando the Nightshard.

If you didn’t have time to watch the trailer, it shows Knight Orlando fighting against an enemy army. As his offense starts to wane, he blows on the war horn to get help from the real-life Orlando Bloom who summoned a dragon and turned the tide of the battle.
Frost & Flame
Orlando the Nightshard joins as a playable character, courtesy of the new version called Frost & Flame: King of Avalon. This new game version comes with a unique American-comics art style along with a new Tower Defense gameplay mode, where players need to deploy heroes and troops strategically to defeat waves of a new deadly enemy known as the Unmelted. These mysterious creatures are covered in snow and ice and have been attacking Avalon during the “Long Winter.”
The Ballad of Orlando
So how did Bloom become “involved” in the game? He arrives in the game through a storyline that’s now part of the game’s lore. He became the new hero and a respected leader of the knights; that is until the Unmelted appeared. The Unmelted attacked Orlando in Dragonshield Town and while trying to save others, he suddenly disappeared. In his place was a hero with the same appearance but was half-Unmelted. Players can learn more about the story through the in-game event The Ballad of Orlando.
In a statement, Orlando Bloom shared that shooting the new trailer for the game was a fun experience. He added that while he's already familiar with acting in a medieval setting, being able to lend his likeness to a mobile game was both a new and fun experience. He ended by saying that he hopes players get to win a lot of their fights with Orlando the Nightshard.
Meanwhile, FunPlus Chief Business Officer revealed that Orlando the Nightshard has already become a favorite in the game and they are excited to see new players enjoy the character as well. He went on to say that this marks the start of a new era for the game.
King of Avalon is a free-to-play mobile game inspired by the legend of King Arthur. It’s available for download on Android and iOS.
