Capcom's Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess allegedly missed sales targets due to a lack of pre-launch marketing and promotion.

The situation comes after the company shared a sales update for its slate of 2024 game releases. It announced that its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 strategy game was not able to perform commercially as well as it had hoped.

Missing Sales Targets

The reasoning that Capcom gave for the unfortunate situation was the lack of awareness surrounding the game across the industry. The publisher also said that it now plans to continue promotion efforts in the future in order to improve sales.

Fortunately, Capcom's other releases this year such as Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, and the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics are performing "as planned."

Two of these games are also getting physical versions that will be coming out this month. The publisher also expects that this will continue to strengthen the titles' sales.

Capcom did not provide any update for the sales numbers of Dragon's Dogma 2, according to Push Square.

The sequel that is available on the PlayStation 5 is expected to be known as Capcom's biggest release of the year. This means that it has been a relatively quiet 2024 for the video games publisher compared to other years.

But it seems like Capcom is planning to start off next year with a bang with the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds release. On the other hand, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess received relatively praiseful reviews with its mix of action and strategy.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess' Popularity

The game is based on Japanese folktales and is a new franchise for Capcom that was released on July 19, 2024, for consoles and PC.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess was described as a fun hybrid game that featured unique gameplay and beautiful visuals, IGN said.

The good news is that Capcom seems to be committed to supporting the game despite its lackluster sales numbers. Fans should also be at ease to know that the publisher will still devote resources to help the game reach its targets.

Another thing to note is that the company's earnings for the first half of the fiscal year look to be relatively weak compared to 2023. Capcom noted that it is still on course to achieve its yearly targets, according to Automaton Media.

This also comes as the company is hoping and expecting to make it big with the release of Monster Hunter Wilds early next year. The current hype for the latest entry in the franchise is massive.
