Sony just announced The Last Guardian will be postponed a few weeks and be released Dec. 6 instead of Oct. 25.
In a PlayStation blog post , President of SCE Worldwide studios, Shuhei Yoshida, said: “A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.”
The game has a long development history, starting almost 10 years ago. Team Ico, who have worked on other unique games like Ico and Shadow Of The Colossus, started work on the game in 2007 and have been developing it since. There were years where fans heard nothing about the game, but Sony assured its fanbase the game was still being worked on .
Cut to E3 2015, where The Last Guardian had a brand new trailer and an actual release date. Fans were thrilled to finally be able to play Fumido Ueda’s unique vision of a boy and his giant dog-like pet.
I want to believe The Last Guardian will live up to my expectations, but blind hope can only get me so hyped. A game that was in development hell for this long must have some serious problems; nobody spends nearly a decade on a game that’s perfect. I stay awake at night, tossing and turning, seeing Duke Nukem Forever floating above my bed.
I hope, for the sake of the legacy of Team Ico and its great library of classic games, that The Last Guardian doesn’t suck.
