This week, nude images of Leafyishere, one of YouTube’s fastest rising stars that then plummeted to obscurity, leaked online. Allegedly a hacker gained access to his Snapchat username and password, looked through his Snapchat Memories (where every photo you take gets stored) and then shared those images online. They were supposed to be just for Leafy’s girlfriend, but the internet is an unforgiving beast. Leafy hasn’t spoke out about the leak yet, even though he’s posted a video every day since.
A young man’s private photos sent to his girlfriend that were then taken from his hacked Snapchat shouldn’t be of interest to anyone, but Leafyishere is a special case. In 2016, he quickly became one of the most viewed “commentary channels” on the site, gaining millions of views on his hateful videos. He attacked young children, people with mental disabilities and pretty much anyone he thought he could ramble about for 10 minutes. After a series of expose videos released by other YouTubers, like idubbbz , he disappeared from the limelight.
But just because the drama has died down and the days of Leafy’s videos being featured on the front page of YouTube are over, it doesn’t mean he’s not doing pretty well for himself. Each one of his daily videos garner anywhere from 200,000 to half a million views. Considering how little effort he puts into making them, it’s easy for him to crank them out
Nude photos of male internet icons seem to be popping up more recently. Krepo , a former League Of Legends analyst, had his naughty bits plastered all over the internet after he sent some pictures to a girl. These pictures were also from Snapchat, but they weren’t accessed illegally by a hacker or unknown third party, they were posted on Discord by the female recipient. I loved Krepo on the analyst desk and it broke my heart when he had to step down. When Leafy’s nudes leaked, I laughed a bit and opened a cold one.
The internet seems to agree with me on how ridiculous this whole situation is:
I will never endorse social media hacking, no matter who it is. I despise Leafyishere for what he’s done (not just by himself) to YouTube. Social commentary channels, outside of well-produced ones like Nerd City, h3h3 and boogie2988) are the worst thing to watch. A talking head over some bad gameplay footage desperate to farm drama for clicks doesn’t make for an interest watch to anyone over the age of 14.
Still, just because the leak isn’t right, it doesn’t mean it isn’t funny. Leafy has abandoned all social media after this stunt, choosing to focus on his videos where he rambles about the Emoji Movie like a drunken orangutan. If anything, these pictures made Leafy relevant to an audience outside his crew of scaly lizard fans.
