The third expansion for Mafia 3 is nearly here, 2K and Hangar 13 confirmed this week. And the content introduced in Sign of the Times should provide some very different experiences from what we saw in the game’s first two add-ons, Faster, Baby! and Stones Unturned . We also got an early look at the expansion, courtesy of a new Mafia 3: Sign of the Times development diary.
Lincoln Clay will have to do some investigating of his own when a new cult, The Ensanglante, begin to make their home in New Bordeaux. Their goal is to “[restore] righteousness and order” in the fictitious city. But their means aren’t exactly reputable. The group is apparently known for using hallucinogenic drugs on new recruits to distort their perceptions of reality and increase members’ willingness to take part in ritualistic violence. The hunt is also becomes personal for Clay when he finds a survivor, badly injured after one of Ensanglante’s rituals, at Sammy’s bar.
The next expansion will play much different from previous Mafia 3 DLC. Faster, Baby! brought new vehicles and a focus on a high speed chases while Stones Unturned paired Lincoln with former C.I.A. agent John Donovan in a war against a new mercenary force, led by a traitor who left Donovan for dead back in Vietnam. In Sign of the Times , Lincoln will track down the elusive cult restore Sammy’s bar to its former glory. Early footage from the expansion suggests it will focus heavily on the investigative process. Lincoln is shown examining evidence and following footsteps through a sewer(?). It also looks like players can expect at least one segment to examine the impact Ensanglante’s drugs have on Mr. Clay.
For a sneak peek at the cultists coming to New Bordeaux, take a minute to watch the new Mafia 3: Sign of the Times trailer from Hangar 13 and 2K Games. Then head down to the comments and let us know if you’re planning to buy the next Mafia 3 DLC when it debuts later this month.
