The highly-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man has finally received an official release date. Insomniac Games, the talented developer behind the more recent Spider-Man games, have confirmed that the sequel will be swinging onto PlayStation 5 on October 20.
Previous Spider-Man Games
Marvel's Spider-Man was initially released in 2018 for PS4 and it became an instant hit among both fans and critics. The game was also a major financial success for Sony, and that success can be attributed to its exciting gameplay, stunning graphics, and captivating story. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a proper sequel and now, it's only a few months away.
Insomniac did release one more SM game titled Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It wasn't a full-fledged sequel since it acted as a spin-off title that shared many similarities with the 2018 game. The scope of Miles Morales was similar to that of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
The smaller Spider-Man title was set after the events of the first game, and it put players in the shoes of Miles Morales, whose job was to protect New York, while Peter Parker had to go away for a while. The upcoming proper sequel is bringing both iconic characters back.
About the Sequel
In Marvel's Spider-Man 2, players can look forward to playing as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The game will explore Parker's unique powers that he gained from a sentient alien symbiote, aka Venom. The above trailer reveals all the cool new abilities you can expect from the sequel.
The sequel aims to deliver a captivating narrative, diving deeper into the relationships between Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and the formidable supervillains they will face. Two villains that have been confirmed are Venom and Kraven the Hunter, with the latter of which came to New York to find a worthy opponent to hunt. Insomniac Games is promising an unforgettable experience and we are all for it.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will take full advantage of PS5's capabilities, including faster loading times, ray tracing, and haptic feedback. A Microsoft Windows port hasn't been confirmed yet, but given Sony's recent interest in PC gaming space, it's only a matter of time.
