There will be multiple new races of aliens in Mass Effect: Andromeda, and we now know the name of one of them. This race, seen in the latest trailer to be the bad guys, are known as the Kett.
While we still don’t really know anything about the Kett, we do know one of them will be a villain. They are a bony-looking race of creatures, and walk around on two legs like a human. Interestingly enough, the Kett were almost a naked species.
When talking to Game Informer, BioWare art director Joel MacMillan revealed the process the Kett took to get to the look seen in the final game.
"We took the perspective of 'maybe these guys are so alien we don't understand what they're doing visually,'” said MacMillan. “Do they even wear clothes? Are they more carnal than our previous aliens? Or are they more enlightened and clothing's a vanity thing and maybe it's not part of their culture? In the initial sketches we actually pushed that forward for quite a way."
Interestingly enough, one of the main reasons to put the Kett in clothes is because they may, at some point, be sympathetic characters. "With the whole kett race we wanted it to be foreboding but never to the point of it being ugly," MacMillan said. "You still want to be able to empathise with these guys."
More information about the Kett and Mass Effect: Andromeda will be revealed over the next few days from BioWare and Game Informer.
