Mega Man Battle Network is set in the near future where the interconnected world of Net Society is dependent on Network Navigators or NetNavis. These NetNavis are the ones that manage everything in the world from something as small as a toaster to the complicated city power grids. There's no question that the networked age introduces all manners of convenience. However, it has also resulted in a wave of cybercrime eroding all levels of society.
In the different games of the series, players take on the role of Lan Hikari using his PErsonal Terminal (or PET) as well as his NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE. To confront the ones responsible for cybercrimes, they’ll control MegaMan.EXE and explore the net and engage in grid-based combat. There are also what's known as Battle Chips which give devastating abilities that can delete even the most sinister viruses.
Online Feature
This new collection has online features where players can brawl with others online in Casual Battles or play with friends in Private Battles. They can even try and put their names on the scoreboard with Ranked Matches.

- Version Battles from Mega Man Battle Network 4.
While online, players can trade Battle Chips, swap MegaMan.EXE styles, and exchange NetNavi Customizer programs with other NetBattlers around the world. Meanwhile, those who want to focus on experiencing the adventures of Lan and MegaMan.EXE can use the new Buster MAX mode outside of online play.
