Gamers had high hopes from Cyberpunk 2077, and the game's unfortunate rocky launch has thrown the community in a fit. The game that was nine years in the making, launched with appalling performance across all platforms. This is particularly on the base PS4 and Xbox One consoles, on which the game was initially planned to release. Another reason why the community is outraged is the countless number of game-breaking bugs and glitches.
CDPR Apologizes for the State of the Game
Responding to the enraged community, CD Projekt Red issued a statement. The developer apologized to the fanbase for hiding the game's performance on the Xbox One and PS4 consoles. The developer also announced that it is willing to issue refunds to PS4 players.
A couple of days after CDPR's apology, Sony pulled out Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Network. Sony announced that it would be issuing refunds to all players who bought the game on the PS4.
Microsoft did not Pull the Same Move But Issued a Warning
Unlike Sony, Microsoft did not remove Cyberpunk 2077 from its online store. But added a line describing the unplayable state of the game. Anyone willing to buy the game on the base Xbox One console will see this. "Users may experience performance issues when playing this game on Xbox One consoles until this game is updated,” the warning reads. Even the popular user reviews website OpenCritic issued a warning against buying Cyberpunk 2077.
While the game is mostly stable on the PC platform, it isn't the same for users running a mid-range graphics card. Owners of GTX 1070, RTX 2070, and the likes can experience issues. To achieve 60 FPS, players have to lower the demanding graphics settings. Still, the overwhelming number of bugs and glitches are enough to ruin the experience. Players should expect these issues until the developer fixes them.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox One X/S, and Stadia.
