Just a handful of weeks before the Mighty No. 9 release date, Comcept has once again announced plans to push back the retail debut of its upcoming spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise. And, to make matters worse, the company doesn’t have a firm timeline for the new Mighty No. 9 release date.

Word of the latest delay comes from Keiji Inafune, the famed game developer who parted ways with Capcom, back in 2010, to build Comcept and spend some time creating the games he actually enjoyed making. A Kickstarter for Mighty No.9 followed shortly thereafter, promising to deliver the completed game in April 2015, and fans were so excited by the prospect that they funded versions of the game for seven different platforms. Unfortunately, that scale seems to have caused some problem for Comcept.

According to Inafune, Comcept staff have been working crunch hours since the beginning of the year, in hopes of correcting matchmaking and game engine issues; however, needing to repair seven different builds leaves little Comcept with little choice but to delay the Mighty No. 9 release date. Yes, again. On the plus side, Inafune says the Mighty No. 9 team still believes it will be able to deliver the final version of the game before the end of spring. But the studio is no longer standing behind a specific launch date.

“Because we are constantly working on it in cooperation with all our partners, we want to wait and make sure that everything is confirmed to be ready before giving a new specific release date,” Inafune wrote. “But we expect it to realistically be in Spring 2016.”

Mighty No. 9 is being developed for PlayStation 3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. The game is scheduled to debut sometime this spring.
