Monster Hunter World has celebrated a remarkable lifespan. The game managed to sell over five million copies within three days of its release in 2017, six million copies in two weeks, and crossed eight million copies in four months. Today, Monster Hunter World has sold over a whopping 15 million copies worldwide. The game also received the Iceborne update late last year, but it seems that the expansion may no longer receive additional updates. Capcom recently announced the Iceborne "Developer's Diary Final," which will be airing on August 28.
The name Developer's Diary Final seems to say a lot, but none of our speculations have been confirmed as of yet. The title may imply that this might be the last Developer's Diary Update from Capcom, or that the Iceborne expansion might be getting a final update. It could also mean that Monster Hunter World would be getting a final update in general.
However, with the lack of information it is unclear what Developer's Diary Final means. We wouldn't be surprised to see Capcom ending support for Monster Hunter World, which has continued to receive post-launch content and support for three years now. This could mean that the developer wishes to focus on its next projects.
We do know some information on what the Developer's Diary Final entails, and it includes a free Title Update 5 which is planned to release in Fall 2020. The new update will also bring back a Monster from previous Monster Hunter games and Master Rank Layered Armor.
This information was collected from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's content roadmap that was released earlier this year. The roadmap also made a mention of Fall Seasonal Events, a returning monster, and layered armor. The Title Update 5 will also be the last update for 2020.
You can learn more about the future of Monster Hunter World through the Developer's Diary Final that airs on August 28 at 8:00 PM EDT.
Monster Hunter World is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
